Mike MacDonald
Artist-in-Residence
June 2002

Artist Mike MacDonald of Vancouver arrived in Sackville May 30 for his Open Studio at Struts. MacDonald focuses mainly on the environment and draws inspiration for his pieces from nature. During his four week residency at the Gallery, MacDonald set up an Open Studio in which he designed and planted one of his renowned butterfly gardens, using plants which grew in the Gallery before becoming part of the garden. He has driven coast to coast working as a video and installation artist as well as a gardener.

The butterfly garden is still thriving in Sackville to this day, now being maintained by the Girl Guides of Canada. The garden can be found between the entrance path to the waterfowl park and Weldon St. Below are some recent picture from 2007.
