MItchell Wiebe
Artist-in-Residence
January 6th to February 10th

This Halifax based painter/musician/video artist is best known for his paintings with their unsettling yet playful fairy tale like beings that live in bursts of colour and blurred views of reality. During his Open Studio, Mitchell will produce objects and paintings, creating an atmosphere in the gallery for a period of one month. He will create suits from paper mache designed and coloured to blend in with his work and worn while he's painting. Later these suits will be worn in performances alongside his musical instruments. the gallery will become an ongoing installation in which Mitchell will explore ideas of portals into other spaces using different lighting techniques.

He will regularly be working in the studio from 11am to 5pm. Please stop in and welcome Mitchell. Without question, he will be welcoming to you!

On Monday January 22 at 7:30 pm the Owens Art Gallery will host Mitchell for a public presentation on his work.

Mitchell has tentatively scheduled a performance for Saturday February 3rd. Further information on these performances will be forthcoming.

We will look forward to seeing you.
