Kate Beaton
an Ease on Down the Road Artist in Residence
January 21 - February 18, 2010

Kate Beaton was born in Nova Scotia, took a history degree in New Brunswick, paid it off in Alberta, worked in a museum in British Columbia, then came to Halifax to draw pictures.

She will be continuing work with the webcomic, which is a daily business, and working on a couple of anthology contributions that she has to complete.

Struts Gallery & Faucet Media Arts Centre are pleased to present an illustrated talk with Halifax comic artist Kate Beaton, Tuesday February 2nd, 7:30 pm. Kate will discuss her work and professional experiences navigating the world of web-based comics and self-publishing.

The first Ease Down the Road artist in residence of 2010, Kate will be in Sackville from January 21 - February 18, working on a variety of projects. A native Cape Bretoner, Kate graduated from Mount Allison University in 2004 with a degree in History and Anthropology before working in Fort McMurray, Vancouver and Toronto. Kate got her start doing comics during her stint as humour editor at the Argosy, Mount Allison's student newspaper, and has since found a global audience for her comics through her website and recent publication Never Learn Anything From History. Her work has been featured in Wired and Macleans, and she won the 2009 Doug Wright Award (Canadian Cartooning) for Best Emerging Talent.
