Sarah Evans & Al Barbour
Ease on Down the Road- Artists in Residence
June 1 - June 30, 2010

Struts Gallery and Faucet Media Arts Center are excited to welcome Sarah Evans and Al Barbour as the 2010 Ease Down the Road artists-in-residence for the month of June. Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Sarah is a zine artist and screen printer, founder of the Anchor Archive Zine Library. She is the coordinator of the Roberts Street Social Centre, and works at the Halifax Public Library. Al has worked as an art director in the film industry, as a graphic designer, and as a bicycle mechanic, among other things.

In the spirit of early adventurers, Sarah and Al will explore the Tantramar marshes between Sackville and Amherst to re-map and re-imagine the area at a more human scale. Venturing out with bicycles and camping gear, they will search for interesting things, discover dykes, cross railway bridges and walk less-travelled roads.

The artists will publish a weekly journal called The Motivist which will chronicle their adventures, containing maps, drawings, photographs and stories. In addition, they will attach a camera to a hand-built box kite in hopes of taking aerial photographs of the area.

The Ease Down the Road residency program was established to support emerging artists in the region who are interested in working with media. For more information, please stop by Struts Gallery.

Sarah and Al have been creating zines of their time here from drawings, photos and writing done about their time spent biking though this region. "The Motivist" issue #1 & #2 are available to purchase here at the gallery by donation.

June 19th brought out many ethusiatic friends of Sarah and Al's and as well members of Strust Gallery to join in an over night trip to Rockport. The temperamental weather of Sackville gave way to a beautiful weekend and enjoyable ride for those who took part.
