E-mail amelia@strutsgallery.ca or call the gallery (536-1211) for more information or to sign up. Monday, JUly 7Regional Media Artist-in-Residence selected Struts Gallery + Faucet Media Arts Centre are pleased to announce that Ryan Suter, an artist from right here in Sackville, will be acting as the first ever Ok.Quoi?! 2008 Regional Media Artist-in-Residence.
Ryan has recently confused Sackville for outer space and now hopes to rectify this confusion with the help of his regional media artist residency. Along with video works installed throughout the Sackville Nation, Ryan will be operating a small recording studio at Struts for the duration of the residency in hopes that locals, tourists, and hangers on will stop by and do some impromptu recording to help complete the work. Ryan will be at the gallery for the duration of the residency so drop-ins are encouraged. Stay tuned for more information and be on the look out for posters with more info.
Visit his blog for more information about his project, accident now!.
Call for submissions Struts Gallery + Faucet Media Arts Centre would like to invite their members, Sackville citizens, and anyone else who is interested to submit a time-based artwork for the 2008 Ok.Quoi?! opening night Cabaret. The pieces should reflect Ok.Quoi?!’s media arts and new music focus, but the invitation is very open-ended; the only restrictions are that pieces cannot exceed 10 minutes in length. In the past, submissions have ranged from short films, to audio art, to new music, to puppet shows.
If you would like to participate please send an email to amelia@strutsgallery.ca describing your project and any equipment/technical needs you may have. Works can be musical, video/film, performance, or interdisciplinary in nature.
Please respond ASAP if you are interested. Confirmation is needed by Friday, July 18 at 5 pm. Unfortunately not all submissions will be part of the program. Artists who are successful will be contacted and a small artist’s fee will be awarded.

SCREENINGS OF TWO WORKS BY SARAH JANE GORLITZ AND WOJCIECH OLEJNIKWe will be screening “/mm” and “just add water” by Sarah Jane Gorlitz and Wojciech Olejnik in the Sackville Music Hall throughout the week (times TBA). These videos present miniature detailed models of abandoned subway corridors and platforms—seemingly functionless and perceptibly fictional spaces. They are made not as direct replicas of actual places, but intuitively, as though from imagination or distant memory. Through the medium of stop-motion, water flows and ebbs, but always abruptly, irregularly. It is as if within this context the water is reanimated, transfigured, no longer water but the form of water, the illusion of water.
ELEANOR KING (HALIFAX, NS) CUPPA CUPS PROJECTKing’s project, Cuppa Cups Collection, is inspired by Fluxus art, especially George Maciunas, and particular works by contemporary artists like Tony Craig, Germaine Koh and Maia Urstad. She will be creating sculpture with nothing but waste material—specifically used disposable coffee cups. With this project, King comments on our throwaway culture: the cheapness of manufacturing, excessive marketing and the disregard for conservation. For King, the Cuppa Cups project is most satisfying artistically and socially, as the execution of this project relieves distinct urges to build sustainable sculpture and to demonstrate environmental activism.
AMANDA FAUTEUX (SACKVILLE, NB) SACKVILLE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION Amanda will be presenting a series of self-guided tours of Sackville in conjuction with her animations on view at Robert Lyon Graphics. Stop by Robert Lyon Graphics (97 Main) for schedules and information. |
