ALANA MOROUNEY

Alana Morouney (she/they) is a textile artist and sculptor in Mi’kma’ki/Sackville, New Brunswick. Using simple mechanics and materials that draw the hand, her interactive sculptures deliver unexpectedly pleasant outcomes. Clothing subtext with tenderness, daily tensions are remade as gestures of affection and suggestions of playfulness. Alana has given workshops and artist talks in participation with A Handmade Assembly and the Owens Art Gallery Maker Maker series, and was the New Brunswick recipient of the BMO 1st award in 2021.

Alana will be showing recent work Early Spring; a series of hand dyed, quilted and appliquéd kites in garden hues created to be flown on the coldest days of winter. Based on the “heavy work” theory that engages large muscle groups as a means to release tension stored in the body, a selection of kites will be available to borrow from the gallery. While the bitter winds of February these were created for have turned sweet and the flowers they mimic are in bloom, the thrill of running with a kite string in hand knows no season.

⚡️When borrowing a kite, please ensure that you are flying in an open area without any power lines.⚡️
