Updated: Mar 13

Call for Proposals: Short-term Sappyfest Adjacent Art Projects

Project dates: August 2 - 4, 2024

Deadline to Apply: Tuesday, March 19, 2024 - 11:59pm (ADT)

Struts Gallery is seeking short-term artist projects that run adjacent to everyone’s favourite music festival -  Sappyfest -taking place this year August 2 - 4, 2024.

Artist and artist collectives are welcome to propose projects that will transform different areas of Sackville or Struts Gallery facilities into memorable, creative spaces. We are interested in ongoing, ambient projects that invite festival goers to engage with and participate in the art in some capacity. We encourage projects that animate zones, create respite from the festival’s noise, and/or provide catalysts for connection and engagement. We welcome use of our extensive media arts equipment holdings in the creation and/or execution of the project. Projects that occur outdoors are encouraged!

Eligible mediums include offsite installations, sound art, relational aesthetics, participatory projects, screenings/projections, and portable sculpture.

Note well:

•  Time based projects should run for a hefty portion of the festival and should not require a dedicated audience or performance time.

•  Sculptural works should be durable and not require monitoring or surveillance.

Struts will provide:

  • Artist fees in accordance to the 2024 CARFAC Fee Schedule for festival exhibition or performance

  • Per diems

  • Accommodations

  • Travel expenses

  • Festival pass for Sappyfest - access to Sappyfest artist meal services.

  • Use of our media arts equipment

  • Installation assistance

  • Promotion and documentation of the work

Who can apply?
