June 10 to July 15

We’re so excited to welcome our next Open Studio Artist in Residence for 2025 – Patrick Lundeen! Patrick was born in Lethbridge, Alberta (Siksikaitsitapi [Blackfoot Confederacy] territory). He is currently based in Kelowna, BC (unceded Okanagan Syilx territory) where he teaches drawing, painting, sculpture and art theory at UBC Okanagan. His interdisciplinary artistic practice includes explorations of painting, drawing, sculpture, sound, video, food, performance, and public art. Recently the work has mostly involved kinetic sculptures that become animated through viewer interaction. Lundeen’s visual strategies employ humour, sensory experience, and a rough and visceral aesthetic as a means to unpack social and political contexts. Lundeen’s work takes on the appearance of garbage decay and chaos to call attention to inconsistencies and inequalities within the white cube gallery space and to question its inherent hierarchies.   In addition to visual art, Patrick is also a dubiously talented musician with 5 (soon to be 6) self-released collections of music on record and cassette.

During his artist-in-residence, Patrick will produce several interactive sculptures that move, make sound and invite viewer participation. He will also do a workshop about how he gets things to move and make sounds (to be announced soon). Patrick welcomes studio visitors and would love to meet you.
