GLOW HOUSE | Kelly Mark Saturday

February 21 (dusk) through Sunday (morning)

President’s Cottage, Mount Allison University, 146 Main Street

Presented in partnership with Pierre Lassonde School of Fine Arts, Mount Allison University Club, and the Atlantic Canada Conservation Data Centre.

To mark the first anniversary of the death of artist Kelly Mark, her classic work Glow House is being presented this week in tandem across ten cities. Glow House consists of a home filled with television sets in every room, all tuned to the same channel. The small flicker of light emanating from each TV becomes a throbbing pulse throughout the house, changing colour and speed based on the content of the broadcast. During commercial breaks it appears as if fireworks are going off inside. The uniform glow makes the home appear gutted like a Jack-O-Lantern.

The work can also be seen for three weeks at Deluge Contemporary Art (Victoria), Goodwater (Toronto), Southern Alberta Art Gallery Maansiksikaitsitapiitsinikssin (Lethbridge), University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon), One Night Stand (Winnipeg), the King Residence (Halifax), Montreal and Hamilton Artists Inc. (Hamilton).
