“Tangling and Untangling is a project built to reduce my own internalized revulsion. As a trans person, many years of my life were spent feeling disconnected from my body and putting a lot of work into altering my physical form. I now have a body I am connected to, yet some insecurities still linger. All of the images in this collection of work begin with confronting naked images of myself. Through the meditative practice of creation, I am able to neutrally use my own form as a base for an exploration of my own visual language. Letting go of control, enjoying the process and untangling all of my thoughts while allowing my drawings to tangle themselves together as I work.” – Sam Spencer
