✨ Inspired by Sailor Moon—where ordinary items like brooches, pens, or compacts become powerful transformation tools—this workshop invites participants to turn everyday materials into wearable sound accessories for emotional empowerment.
In this hands-on workshop, participants will design and build a wearable sound accessory—made by them, for them. Drawing from Open Studio artist in residence Ahreum Lee’s research, they will explore how personal electronics can support emotional expression in response to everyday microaggressions. Participants can attend on their own or pair up with a partner to work together.
The workshop happens in two parts.
Part 1: Wednesday, May 28, 6pm
The session begins with a collective discussion on experiences of microaggressions and how we carry accumulated emotions in daily life. Participants will share strategies and identify sounds that feel protective, disruptive, calming, or affirming in response to uncomfortable situations.
Part 2: Friday, May 30, 1pm
Using micro-IC chips, mini speakers, buttons, conductive fabric, and reused or found materials, each person will build their own small “transformation device.” These DIY accessories will store and play custom sounds—like a personal sound spell activated when needed.
No electronics experience is required—just your stories, imagination, and everyday magic. 🌙💫
