Reception: Sunday, February 2 1-3pm
Artist Statement:
'What Goes Unnoticed' is a collection of artwork derived from arbitrary moments of ‘close-looking'. Together these small moments act as a form of self-portraiture to highlight what I deem to be precious, amusing, or intriguing; no matter how small or insignificant. Themes of play, tension, artist interaction, repurposing, mending, scale, and community; intersect in various ways to communicate and shape multiple interpretations. This exhibition is a collection of my personal moments to share with my peers and asks the audience to slow down for reflection on the missed details of the world we share. The practice of detailed observation is important to my art-making practice and is reflected with this exhibition collection.
Artist Bio:
My art-making explores my complex relationship with the natural and constructed world. Finding a sense of beauty or humor in the every day is what draws me to creating. Taking time to practice ‘close-looking’, I often find small or insignificant moments that jump out at me and prompt me to further investigate. With this closer scrutiny, I extend the ‘life’ of a moment and have time to consider what has prompted this partnership of idea and work. As a third-year student in the Fine Arts program, most of my creative production takes place in Sackville through my three disciplines of printmaking, sculpture, and photography. My hands are never idle and I find myself with copious ideas that consume my short time at home in Bridgewater NS. I use artistry as a tool to facilitate the exploration of my surroundings; thus forging a picture of who I am as an artist and person.
START Gallery is a juried gallery space designated for and run by Mount Allison Fine Arts students.
